The Girl from the Other Side in competition at Ottawa 2020

July 17, 2020

The Girl from the Other Side short film, directed by Yutaro Kubo and Satomi Maiya, has been selected for International Competition at the 44th Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF 2020). Although the on-site festival has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 emergency, the festival is going to be held online from September 23 to October 4, 2020.

First held in 1976, OIAF is the first international festival entirely devoted to animation to be organized in North America, and with an attendance of 30,000, it is currently recognized as the largest of its kind in the region. It is considered one of the Big Four animation festivals in the world, along with Annecy, Zagreb and Hiroshima. Organized by the Canadian Film Institute, OIAF is an Oscar qualifying film festival for animated shorts.

This year, the festival received a total of 1950 entries from 84 different countries and territories. Of those, 92 short films, including VR and Animated Series, were chosen for competition. The Girl from the Other Side is one of the six short films selected from Japan, and it will screen in the Shorts for 6-12 section.
