USA Premiere at Film Comment Selects 2007 (NY)

January 26, 2007

Mamoru Oshii's Tachigui: The Amazing Lives of the Fast Food Grifters (original title: Tachiguishi Retsuden) will receive its USA premiere at Film Comment Selects 2007, the film series organized by the Film Society of Lincoln Center from February 14 to 27, 2007 in New York City.

Film Comment Selects presents films championed by the writers and editors of Film Comment magazine, published by the Film Society of Lincoln Center. The eighth edition of Film Comment magazine's ever eclectic and adventurous showcase offers a wide assortment of previews, discoveries and rediscoveries. Considered USA's most respected cinematic journal, Film Comment magazine features the best writing around on new international and American cinema.

On Tachigui: The Amazing Lives of the Fast Food Grifters, Film Comment's European editor Olaf Moller wrote: "It fits no category... Absurdly funny, at times tragic, and continuously eye-popping, it's an epic, voiceover-loaded social history of postwar Japan told through the eyes of a criminal clan. Honest-to-God masterpiece of mad invention."

Also known for two world-class film events, the New York Film Festival and New Directors/New Films, The Film Society of Lincoln Center was founded in 1969 to celebrate American and international cinema, to recognize and support new filmmakers, and to enhance awareness, accessibility and understanding of the art among a broad and diverse film going audience. The organization has been a pioneer among film institutions and one of the film world's most respected and influential arbiters of cinematic trends and discoveries.
