Musashi USA premiere at the 4th San Francisco International Animation Festival
October 30, 2009
Mizuho Nishikubo's Musashi: The Dream of the Last Samurai is having its USA premiere at the 4th San Francisco International Animation Festival (SFIAF 2009), to be held in San Francisco, CA, USA from November 11 to 15, 2009.
In its fourth annual edition, the five-day San Francisco International Animation Festival (SFIAF) celebrates San Francisco's prominence as a hub for animation, one of the most creative cinematic forms, that occupies a unique space between artistic, experimental, commercial and industrial media.
SFIAF is presented by the San Francisco Film Society, Northern California's premiere organization for filmmakers and cineastes. Internationally recognized throughout its first half-century of groundbreaking activity, and poised to dynamically respond to the rapidly changing needs of its industry and constituents well into the future, the Film Society offers an inclusive and rewarding range of year-round public programs that investigate and celebrate the artistry and innovation of the world's most pivotal and imaginative cinematic visionaries.
"Oshii playfully questions the tale's -and his own film's- veracity, weaving together facts and myths while alternating between reverence and silliness in his treatment of events and exaggerations about the "the seeker of the way of the invincible sword" in this refreshingly offbeat look at militarism and machismo."
