Mamoru Oshii's The Sky Crawlers, has been awarded with the Excellence Prize at the 23rd Digital Content Grand Prix.

The movie was nominated for the Golden Lion at the 65th Venice Film Festival and was greeted with three awards, namely the Jose Luis Guarner Critic Award, Best Soundtrack Award (to Kenji Kawai) and the Young Jury Award for the Best Motion Picture in the Fantastic Selection at the 41st SITGES International Film Festival of Catalonia (Sitges 08).

In the past, Production I.G has been honored three times with Digital Content Grand Prix recognitions. In 2003 (18th Digital Content Grand Prix) President & CEO Mitsuhisa Ishikawa received the Chairman Prize for his achievements as producer and entrepreneur, and in 2004 (19th Digital Content Grand Prix) Mamoru Oshii's Innocence received the Grand Prix in the Hit Content Division, and in 2006, Kenji Kamiyama's Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society was awarded the Jury Prize.

The 23rd Digital Content Grand Prix, cosponsored by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Digital Content Association of Japan (DCAJ) to praise those people or companies who brought such technologies, service systems, and hit digital content as helped the Japanese digital content industry grow in 2008.
