Miss Hokusai and Jin-Roh featured at Paris MANGA<->TOKYO Exhibition

December 6, 2018

Artworks and production materials (originals and replicas) from Production I.G's feature films Miss Hokusai and Jin-Roh are on display at the MANGA<->TOKYO Exhibition, held at the Grande Halle, La Villette, Paris, from November 29 through December 30, 2018.

Keiichi Hara's Miss Hokusai, based on the comic book created by Edo lifestyle expert Hinako Sugiura (also featured at the exhibition) offers one of the most lively renderings found in anime of early XIX century's Edo, as the city of Tokyo was known until 1868. Hiroyuki Okiura's Jin-Roh is set in a bleak and lavishly-rendered alternate post-war Tokyo of the Sixties, a critical time of passage from civil unrest to an affluent yet politically indifferent society.

Detailed information are available from the exhibition's official website.

The MANGA<->TOKYO exhibition offers a portrayal of the city of Tokyo and its iconic and ever-changing landscape, from Edo times to its most futuristic mutations, through the multiple depictions and interpretations offered by Japanese manga, animation, games, and SFX films (tokusatsu).

The exhibition is part of the official program of "Japonismes 2018: le sâmes en résonance", an extensive cultural season to showcase the unrevealed beauty of Japanese culture in France. This exhibition plans on displaying as many as 90 different works, which will provide a complex experience of the city of Tokyo.

Organized by The Japan Foundation; The National Art Center, Tokyo; Agency for Cultural Affairs;
Organization for Promoting Manga and Animation; La Villette.
